Better options available.

Strong Fathers, Strong Daughters is a much better book because it gives you actionable advice. This book is more of an autobiography of a good dad. For example, the conclusion of the book is about the author's birthday party, and how his children expressed their appreciation of how great a dad he is. Nothing else, which seems weird. I've taken plenty of notes from other books but didn't really take anything away from this one. No "aha" moments. Just common sense with some stereotypical stories thrown in.

One giant brag fest of how awesome the writer is. So many name dropping of celebrities he interviewed, his daughter was home coming queen, etc. Oldest daughter could read when she was 2. Summer home in new york, wife didn't work then when she did she owned a store. Goes on and on how great he is and how awesome his wife is How about you act like iust a regular person to gain our respect and not brag about how perfect your kids are and how rich you are?

Possibly the most important book on Islam you will ever read. It goes beyond the simplistic characterizations of peaceful and violent Muslims, but delves into the theology that undergirds modern Islam in many of its variants. It will surprise you, anger you, but also give you hope. The origins of peaceful Muslims are discussed, but in a very nuanced way that doesn't give way to naivete about the theological consensus. Give it a read no matter how you feel about Islam: you will learn a lot. Robert Spencer does his homework and hardly indulges in gross simplifications. He takes on claims about Islam head on with citations from Islams respected scholarly authorities, leaders, and historical accounts.

As an Arabic linguist who has read the Koran, Mr. Spencer made crystal clear quite a few charming concepts that went completely over my head the first time. For example, "those whom your right hands possess" doesn't sound nearly so innocuous when you realize this is Koranic euphemism for slaves (something this "perfect book" takes completely for granted).

As is often the case with this author's works, the free world ignores him at their own peril.

I liked the fact that Mr. Spencer did not tell me what to think about the Koran ,but rather what it said and allowed me to make up my own mind. The refferences were broad and many to get an idea that this book was not his own idea, but others as well. Match it with the Koran in english and you get the big picture. Good read.

Great photos

This is a great book and features my distillery which is the "Old Crow" distillery. There are a few inaccuracies in the text but overall great photos and interesting material. If you would like to come back to shoot more let me know.

The colour blue as a lens to view the human condition

I love this book. It is nonfiction, and comprises a series of small, numbered writings. They're more similar to Nietzsche's aphorisms in size--that is, they can be a sentence or two, or fill a few pages--but they are affirming, profound, and provocative. What are they about? Ostensibly, the colour blue. The entire book comprises reflections on the colour blue--its symbolism, its place in the spectrum of light, its manifestations as moods and states of being, its place in literature and music.

The writing is brilliant. Maggie Nelson, whose most recent book, THE ARGONAUTS, is a tour de force, has such a fantastic style. Her writing evoked feelings in me as her writing placed a series of sensory experiences in my mind, each of which was evoked by what she was writing about.

This is a work of philosopy, of aesthetic theory, of cultural criticism, a meditation on what it means to be alive and human, all creatively told by writing about the colour blue. At first glance, it may sound like another form of navel gazing, but that would be a misreading of what's going on. This is a book about the human condition, one that Nelson writes about with style and aplomb.

Bluets is life.

I recommend this book to someone who is not following a story line. Or, loves the color blue lol.

Bluets is a mere book on the color blue and her love for it. It is BEAUTIFULLY written. Love the references, love the descriptions, very detailed. I loved reading it on my cold days with hot chocolate is was so comforting.

Nelson's book is rife with deep honesty, sensible confession, dark(-ish) humor, and enough sadness to tear viscera asunder. Nelson confesses she wanted to compose a book that would be a complete, comprehensive encyclopedic index of blue. What the reader gets is a book about compassion, mourning, hope, happiness, sex, and, as one might expect, one blue coat. What the reader gets is Bluets - nothing like any other book out there. Beautifully written, compelling, believable, deeply felt.
