AC Hanstedt, the original Smartist, is the byproduct of combining three parts college student, four parts US Army soldier, and seven parts artist; stir well, and serve to an interested audience. Prior to a combat tour in Iraq, he earned a bachelor's degree in Game Art and Design while living in Denver. He also paints, dances when no one is looking, and can beat you at Halo.

Cult classic in the making!

This page turner has mass appeal to all walks of literary enthusiasts: Not only does it provide thought provoking concepts, but provides effortless entertainment for those simply looking for a written joy ride. A perfect combination of intellectual savvy, humor, mystery, and action packed adventure. Truely a new breed of literature.

Compelling

Hanstedt's writing style makes compelling use of the first person perspective. The frank candor of his character, Bueren, helps one to relate to the character, even if his values are less than laudable at times, and the voice Hanstedt uses draws his reader in, always curious to see what Bueren says or thinks about his situation.
The plot is interesting, and most of the book is a page-turner. The combination of mystery and action is captivating. The technological/philosophical foundation of the secret organization Bueren finds himself working for is refreshingly original and appealing to artists of the various mediums. It causes one to think about the balance of the maths and sciences that lead to our technological progress and the various art forms that add value to our lives. It will be interesting to see what other works this artist will produce as he progresses as a writer.

Downloading the second one...

Ran into the author in Afghanistan a few months ago. After the book came up during a particularly loathsome lunch, I figured I would read it and contribute fifty cents to his economic well being. I was pleasantly surprised. Hadn't ever read anything combining art history, car chases and dames in short skirts.
Give him ten pages and you'll be downloading the second book. If you enjoy quirky and banter filled dialogue, science fantasy concepts described from the point of view of a character who doesn't fundamentally understand them and lines that would get you slapped for uttering them in polite company, this is your read this weekend.
